Ho Shan Lam is a 19-year-old composer, studying on a scholarship in Composition major for the 2nd year in the BMus Honours Degree at the Royal Northern College of Music under Steven Daverson. Ho Shan began his musical education at the age of 5 when he had his initial exposure to Western Classical music such as Beethoven and Mozart which led to his interests in playing the Percussion. He first received composition lessons from the prestigious Junior Department of the Hong Kong Academy of Performing Arts. Composition has always been a passion of his within music with heavy inspiration from a variety of famous composers such as John Williams, Igor Stravinsky and Claude Debussy as many of the pieces he writes are of similar style as impressionism with a modern twist and he also has huge interests in film music composition. The roots of his musical career have been taken to a further level with the exposure of performance opportunity with his secondary school, King George V School, which, later on truly inspired him to pursue his studies in composition as he was very intrigued by how the notes and rhythm were put together to make a great sounding piece to be performed and enjoyed by audiences locally and globally.

Ho Shan is passionate about getting his music performed and workshopped, for example, he had "Lost in Space" workshopped by the ensemble members of the London Sinfonietta and also "The Stygian" being workshopped during the Summer Intensive Course at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. He is also an aspiring music educator as his interests lie within the education sector and are always eager and excited to educate the younger generation about his passion.

A daring and risk-taker at heart, Ho Shan takes inspiration from famous figures within the music industry such as John Lennon, relating to the common theme in the rebellious-nature of music, the ability to deal with environmental and political issues in modern-day through the use of musical language to further inform and educate the audience regarding these important events and issues in today's society.
