HO SHAN
Composer

BIO
“I would rather write 10,000 notes than a single letter of the alphabet.” – Ludwig van Beethoven
Ho Shan Lam is a 21-year-old composer studying Composition on a scholarship at the Royal Northern College of Music. He has been passionate about music since he was 5 years old, with his initial exposure to Western Classical music igniting his interest in playing percussion. He is currently studying under Steven Daverson at the Royal Northern College of Music. Ho Shan received composition lessons from the prestigious Junior Department of the Hong Kong Academy of Performing Arts and is heavily inspired by composers such as John Williams, Igor Stravinsky, and Claude Debussy. His style can be described as impressionism with a modern twist, and he is particularly interested in film music composition.
Ho Shan's musical career has taken off thanks to his secondary school, King George V School, which inspired him to pursue his studies in composition. He is passionate about getting his music performed and workshopped, having had his pieces workshopped by the BBC Philharmonic x RNCM orchestra, the ensemble members of the London Sinfonietta and students at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama during the Summer Intensive Course.
In addition to composing, Ho Shan aspires to be a music educator, eager to educate the younger generation about his passion. He is a daring and risk-taking composer, taking inspiration from figures such as John Lennon, using musical language to inform and educate audiences about environmental and political issues in modern-day society.
